abandoned by previous owners
it stood lost and uncertain
it never wanted another again
it swore to itself
however dependent
however desolate
it shall just live with the small things of life
gone are the days it felt so alive
till one day a man
not first time he passed
but this one sweet time
he bent down and picked
the little dog up into his strong arms
not first time they met
many times neglect
but this peculiar instant
they felt they shared a moment
it felt understood
and he was full of care.
he brought it back
to the home of many strays
his love was for all
his care filled the hall
it grew to depend
it grew to accept
it grew to believe
have faith and forget
all that made it sad
it did cleanly forget
what matter's now
it's happily attached
the owner so full of love
it never felt better
it never thought anything
could be any better
it lived in it's world
of the owner alone
it jumped at every instant
to spend time with owner
every little gesture
even a few seconds a day
was enough to make it happy
enough to make it's day.
so filled with love and joy
it put all things aside
it forgot all it's troubles
it lived not for it's life.
to make the owner happy,
it did all that it felt
was possible
was permissible
was suitable
was comfortable.
little did it realise
that it was living in it's world
of imagination and dreams
of blissful ignorance.
to the humane owner
it was yet another dog
one it cared a lot
like he did to the whole lot
moments he spent
protecting each dog
he did his best
he treated them all equal
he just wanted them well.
little did he realise
his little acts of kindness
meant the world to the dog.
humans are always humans
rendered smartest creatures
the world is theirs to venture
dreams they soar above
the things they want to conquer
they never see the end
they have so much to handle
what is a dog but trouble.
the man grew to realise
there are many things in life
not contented to just making dogs happy
he wanted more in life.
he set out to lead a real life
a life he called a life
the dogs he had he still cared
but man is still man
accomplishing everything is highly impossible
he just had to rank them in order.
no doubt he loved the dogs
but he knew many other things he rather.
so the dog which felt so loved
was helpless and despondent
it knew it was naive
to ever trust so much
but yet again it knew
it never felt so much
for any other owner
or any living creature
it may be foolish
but it did felt happiest
the time spent with the owner.
it saw the owner leaving
but just stood at the doorstep
it played with all the others
and acted all the same
it looked so happy outside
it looked like it could call the place home
but deep inside it knew
it was the owner
which made anywhere home.
for the owner filled a hole
the dog never knew existed
the jigsaw that fits it
belongs only to him.
as the dog saw the owner
proceeding with his life
it barked and cheered him on
tears at the corner of it's eyes.
it knew it was just a dog
a hobby a passion a small thought
the owner may be it's world
but it is so minute in the owner's world
to love the owner
to prove it's loyalty
and as man's best friend
it'll watch him go away
and it'll be strong
it'll survive.
it wanted the owner happy and
it felt this was right.
it could suffer
it could die
to make all things alright.
the dog diminished
and slowly backed off
it no longer ran to the gate
to send the owner off
it no longer ran up
to lick the owner's face
it no longer showed all the joy
it actually contained.
the owner being the owner
whose kindness made him an owner
continued spreading his kindness
and great love.
one day the owner,
brought in a new dog.
one look it could tell
it was not of his sort.
it saw the dog
with great fur and physique
it must be a beauty
from the glorious pet shop.
it looked at itself
so pathetic and forgotten
it wondered if the owner
still remembered it's name.
it saw the owner
his happy smiling face
which once stared into it
which once was because of it
the owner adored the newbie
it made the owner really happy.
the dog walked away
but yes it was glad
the owner was happy
and that's still all it cared
it looked at the new dog
felt happy for it
it knew it was the luckiest.
it experienced it.
the dog remained in the shadows,
diminishing
as things of more importance
of more convenience
of more ability
come into place.
the owner was happy
it was all it needed,
it looked nonchalant
but behind it's back
it's tail still wagged
ever so vigorously
every time it sees the owner,
it loved like no other.
